Candlestick charts are the default and the right choice for reading reversal patterns. Heikin-Ashi smooths noise for trend-following but hides true open/close prices, so do not place stops from it. Line charts (close only) are useful for drawing clean support and resistance on the daily and weekly.
Chart tips for forex traders
- Use UTC or New York close. Daily candles differ by broker; our charts use UTC. Pivot levels change if the daily close changes.
- Keep timeframes in a 4–6× ratio. 15m → 1H → 4H → Daily gives a coherent top-down view. See the 1H/4H method.
- Fewer indicators, more structure. Two or three indicators plus horizontal support and resistance lines outperform cluttered charts.
- Save layouts. Log in to TradingView inside the widget to persist your drawings across visits.
